John Murchison
Head Trainer - Distance Specialist John is a no-nonsense kind of man with roughly 25 years in the racing industry. He has a heart for horses and loves his job more than anything. If he sees that a horse wants to race and both the horse and the jockey put in the effort, he's all for it. But he has no patience for lazy horses or even lazier jockeys and won't even give them the time of day. He's friendly, but incredibly competitive and he becomes acquainted with his horses as soon as possible. If they're born at KC Stud and will race in KCRS silks, you can bet that you'll find John at KC Stud having a heart-to-heart moment with the foals. He always starts training the youngsters when they're a year and a half ensuring that they have plenty of time to be a horse before the 2-3 years of hard work ahead of them. He doesn't believe in racing horses in prospects believing that the stress is too much for the young horse. |
Mikael Skultz
Assistant Trainer - Miler, Sprinter Specialist Mikael, or "Mik" joined KC Racing in the early summer of 2017. As the racing string grew, John decided that he needed someone to help him with the training. Of course, the old geezer was very picky when it came to finding someone. Mikael is John's more outgoing counterpart and he tends to focus on sprinter-type horses while John allows himself to be more flexible with milers and routers. Mikael enjoys fast horses and short races, something about a short attention span. He talks quite a bit and even makes a point of riding horses in breezes to truly get a feel for the horse. He and John often butt heads about their training techniques. |
